A Lyrical Pause

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear,
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes,
how do you measure,
measure a year?
In daylights,
in sunsets,
in midnights and cups of coffee?
In inches,
in miles and laughter and strife?
In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes,
how do you measure,
a year in the life?

How about love,
how about love,
how about love?
Measure in love-
seasons of love,
seasons of love!

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty five thousand journeys to plan,
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes,
how do you measure the life of a woman or a man?

In truths that she learned,
or tears that he cried,
in bridges he burned or the way that she died?
Its time now to sing out though the story never ends,
let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends!

Remember the love!
Remember the love!
Remember the love!
Measure in love-
Oh you got to you got to remember the love!
You know that love is a gift from up above!
Share love, give love, spread love!
Measure, measure your life in love.

Seasons of love,
Seasons of love,
Measure you life, measure your life in love...

What a contrast. The comments on the last post just filled me with a dark, heavy, angsty feeling. The I get this nice lyrical break and read these two comments and suddenly I feel better.

I think there is something about love that makes people feel good and something about hate that makes people feel bad.

I remember singing this song in 6th grade chorus. funny, eh... how ironic.

A year ago, the Gay Christian Network put on a skit at their annual conference titled "Straight to Heaven", a musical parody of the ex-Gay movement.

One of the songs describing stereotypical gay life is sung to this tune.

525,600 hookups
525 guys I slept with last year ...
525 shirtless friends on my Myspace
they'll give it up if you'll buy 'em a beer
We're searching for something, for someone to sub for substance
"I love you," "You're cute," "Don't call me again!"
525,000 shameless excuses
we give our neverending supply of men

It's all about lust...
passionate lust...
unbridled lust...
self-serving lust
culture of lust...
culture of lust...

525,600 websites
525,000 dollars to pay
525,000 profiles I've filled out
Why do I get the same five matches every day?!

In every gay group, it's no mystery
most any two people have some history!
With all this freeloving, the drama never ends
It's easier by far to find sex than to find true friends!

It's all about lust...
passionate lust...
unbridled lust...
self-serving lust
Measure, measure your life in lust

culture of lust...
culture of lust...

Sad...
I have to confess that I usually despise parodies. Sorry Abelard.

I'm not big on parodies either; but, I really rather enjoyed this one. Although it is a parody, it has a very poignant message. Simply listing out the words of one of the songs doesn't do it justice.

You ought to watch it. It's about an hour long - I'd be very curious to see what other members of the Mormon queerosphere think of it. You can watch it here.
