Bravery and Cowardice

Who is the coward? I am sure that there are gay Mormons out there who would label those who leave the church to pursue a homosexual lifestyle as cowards; they’re too weak to keep the commandments- too pusillanimous to follow what they know in their hearts to be true. They’re taking the easy way out.

Who is the coward? I am sure that there are gay Mormon renegades out there who would label those who choose to stay in the church as cowards; they’re too craven to leave what is comfortable, acceptable, and safe- too weak to genuinely explore and embrace their identity. They’re taking the easy way out.

Who is the coward? Who is insecure?

FWIW, I will admit to feeling sadness for those people who choose not to stay in the church, but, dammit, it's hard enough keeping ourselves alive, in or out of the church, let alone with all the hatred poured on us by society at large.

I figure live and let live; you're making choices that you feel are best for you, and who am I to make your life worse. We've allbeen through enough. I just hope you can find a certain happiness in your life.

Why does someone have to be the coward? Can't they both not be cowards? Perhaps the cowards are the ones that commit suicide. That's the only easy way out. But even then, it takes guts, so I don't know.

Pusillanimous. Is that where the horribly degrading term pussy comes from? You should find a different word. Pusillanimous sounds like a word that would be liked by lesbians and fourth grade boys. It makes me uncomfortable. (no offense to all you lesbian readers, whom I love!)

Oh. And . . .

You've put Christmas back up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yAy! Thanks for having the courage to say no to straight grinch people who want to steal Christmas.

Sorry if any of you missed the point of this post- the coward is the one covering up his insecurities by pointing fingers.

Of course it takes bravery to stay in the church. Of course it takes bravery to leave.

And I doubt that the icky "p" word comes from pusillanimous. I wouldn't hesitate to bet that 99% of the people who keep the icky "p" word in regular rotation have never heard the word before. I like the word pusillanimous because it sounds like what it means- if you think it sounds like the icky "p" word, Petey, you might be pronouncing it incorrectly. It wouldn't be the first time ;) lol.

And yes, I put Christmas back up just for you. :)

I agree with you Draco. It does take bravery to do both. We all need to find our way in life and it is definitely different from everybody else's. I think that people start pointing their fingers at everyone else just to solidify their beliefs in their mind. I know that I am guilty of this, but I belief I have gotten a lot better about not doing this.

Be brave and do what you think is right.

Indeed he is.

And I thought your usage of "pusillanimous" was awesome.

For me, I don't much care if you're in the church or out of it. If you're doing what you think is right, then I respect you.

That is a great question.

I wish I knew who was the coward.
